My Approach
My approach as a coach is to listen to, support and nourish your thinking, to notice the things that are important to you, and to be curious. I understand the investment which you are choosing to make in a coaching relationship and I will partner with you to deliver the results you are looking for.
You may be at a crossroads in your life or career, managing an impossible workload, or struggling to meet expectations set by yourself or others. Or perhaps an unexpected life event has knocked you off course. Or maybe you are just fine and simply looking to become an even better version of yourself or to “get to the next level”.
I believe that when you can talk about an issue in a supportive space, hear yourself doing so, and reflect on that afterwards, you generate new sparks of creative thinking, perhaps things you have never noticed or thought about before, or long since forgotten.
My role is to help you generate those sparks of creativity, be curious about them together and to offer challenge where it is needed. Empathy and trust are core values for me – I will meet you wherever you are in your life now.
We will work to develop your objectives, formulate an action plan and achieve practical results. I bring a wealth of experience and a passion for you to succeed. Above all, my coaching is all about you, and the results you want to achieve.
"Working with Jonathan has been a truly transformative experience."
My Professional Background
I worked as a lawyer at Freshfields for over 35 years, the last 25 as a partner. My most recent role was a co-leader of the firm’s global ESG practice, before my retirement as an active partner in the firm in April 2024.
Over the course of my career, I was involved in many mentoring and coaching roles, helping more junior colleagues to develop their careers and overcome all manner of professional and personal challenges along the way. I was also coached myself in an earlier phase of my career and will never forget the transformative change that I experienced.
As a result of these life experiences I became determined to channel my energy into a new second career as a coach. I believe that I can bring the same drive and enthusiasm to this role as I did to my legal career.
Since my retirement from Freshfields, I have undertaken a professional coaching qualification at Henley Business School, gaining a Professional Certificate in Executive Coaching, a triple-accredited coaching programme. I am also a member of the European Mentoring and Coaching Council.
"Jonathan has a remarkable ability to create a safe and constructive space, encouraging reflection while also challenging me to reach new levels of clarity and confidence."
